John Robert Doe, 75, of Cedar Rapids, died on Sunday, April 24, 2005, in his home surrounded by his family after an extended illness. A memorial service to celebrate John’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, 2005, at the Community Center at 1234 1st Street, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
His family includes his wife of 57 years, Jane; two children, son James (June) Doe of Cedar Falls and daughter Jamie (Jordan) Dawson of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Julie (Jack) Duke of Sioux City, Jackie Doe of Iowa City, and Jason (Jodie) Doe of Mason City; sister-in-law, Josephine Donovan of Dubuque; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Janet (Dyson); brother, James Doe; and sister, Juliette Dodds.
John was born April 25, 1931, in Davenport, Iowa and his family moved to Cedar Rapids when he was young. He graduated from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids and later attended Iowa State University in Ames and received his degree in Mechanical Engineering. John founded the Doe Engineering Company and operated for over 32 years. He was a member of the Iowa Association of Mechanical Engineers and the International Association of Mechanical Engineering. John enjoyed playing golf, researching family history, and time spent with his family.
